The Kwara State Government has commenced the construction and renovation of 13 public schools across the Kwara South Senatorial District, marking another significant milestone in Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s ongoing education reform agenda.
The development was disclosed in a statement signed on Tuesday by one of the governor’s media aides, Akeweje Fafoluyi, in Ilorin.
According to the statement, the projects constitute the first batch of a broader statewide school upgrade programme aimed at revitalising public education through improved infrastructure and enhanced learning facilities. The intervention is designed to provide safer, more conducive learning environments for students while addressing years of infrastructural neglect in many public schools.
Governor AbdulRazaq reaffirmed that education remains a top priority for his administration, noting that the ongoing projects underscore the government’s commitment to revamping school infrastructure and expanding access to quality education across all parts of the state.
The school construction and renovation programme is being implemented across Kwara State’s 16 local government areas, with 39 schools approved statewide in the first phase. All 13 schools allocated to Kwara South are already undergoing construction or renovation.
Funded through approved government allocations, the projects include the construction of new classrooms, renovation of dilapidated buildings, development of science laboratories, and rehabilitation of examination halls.
Among the beneficiary institutions are Senior Secondary Comprehensive College, Isanlu-Isin, where a science laboratory is being constructed, and Surajudeen College, Erin-Ile in Oyun Local Government Area, which is receiving renovated classroom blocks. Government Secondary School, Ipe, also in Oyun LGA, is benefiting from the construction of a two-room laboratory, while Nawair-Ud-Deen Grammar School, Offa, is undergoing classroom renovations.
Other schools benefiting from the intervention include Moremi High School, Offa, where classrooms and offices are being renovated; Iloffa Grammar School, Oke-Ero LGA, with a new two-room laboratory; and Government Secondary School, Idofian, which is also receiving a laboratory.
Additionally, Community Comprehensive High School, Obo-Ile in Ekiti LGA is being renovated alongside Community Secondary School, Etan, and Community Senior Secondary School, Ikerin. Idofian Grammar School is set to have its school hall renovated, while Iketa Grammar School, Osi, is benefiting from the renovation of its examination hall. Muslim High School, Oro, in Irepodun Local Government Area, is also receiving upgraded classrooms and offices.
Education officials noted that many of the affected schools had suffered prolonged periods of decay, adding that the ongoing works would restore them to functional learning centres and deliver positive socio-economic impacts to their host communities.
“This intervention will help reduce overcrowding, improve access to education, and enhance learning outcomes for students,” an official said, describing the programme as a core component of the administration’s broader education renewal strategy.
The statement concluded that the first phase of the school upgrade programme is expected to set the tone for sustained investments in public education across kwara state
