Former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has declared that he will not abandon his political principles for personal benefit.

Kwankwaso spoke on Friday at his residence in Kano, shortly after reports emerged that Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, alongside several local government chairmen, some members of the House of Representatives and aides, had resigned from the NNPP.

He said his years in politics had been guided by a commitment to the welfare of ordinary Nigerians, stressing that material inducements had never driven his political journey.

“I’m not for sale. It is our political convictions that keep me grounded. If I were in politics for personal gain, I would have taken the easy path, and you would be looking for me elsewhere, not here,” he said.

The former governor of Kano State added that the Kwankwasiyya Movement had survived over the years because of shared ideals, not financial incentives.

“It is our collective vision that keeps us together. If greed was my motivation, I would have collected money and disappeared, and you would not be here today showing your support,” he stated.

Kwankwaso also urged his supporters to begin early mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning them against complacency.

“We need people like you who have made sacrifices and stood by the truth. Do not relent, because one day we will realise our goals,” he said.

Commenting on the political situation in Kano, Kwankwaso said recent developments made early preparation imperative.

“Considering what is happening in Kano today, we must begin to prepare. There are people determined to destroy what we have built over time,” he noted.

Reaffirming his stance, the NNPP chieftain assured his followers that he would remain resolute in his mission.

“My mission has always been to fight for the ordinary people. I will never compromise with those who exploit the masses,” he said.
