Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has responded to rumours suggesting he may defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying any decision about his political future would depend entirely on the wishes of the people of the state.

Speaking with journalists, the governor made it clear that he would not go against the popular will. According to him, politics is fundamentally about service to the people, and their collective decision would guide his next move.
“There have been many rumours about whether I plan to defect to the APC or not. If that is what my people want, I have no choice but to respect their wish, because politics is about the people,” he said.

Fintiri also criticised individuals he described as “political merchants,” accusing them of stirring tension around the issue out of fear and personal interest. He said such voices were driven by self-preservation rather than the welfare of the state.

He stressed that his administration has built solid grassroots support through infrastructure projects, economic development, and investment in human capital across Adamawa. According to him, these efforts have strengthened security and deepened the bond between the government and the people.

“Adamawa is stable because we have created genuine connections through development and infrastructure, especially in human capital. If my people say I should remain where I am, I will stay and we will win,” he said.

The governor maintained that performance, not political speculation, would ultimately determine success at the polls. He added that delivering the dividends of democracy remains his top priority, regardless of party alignment.
