Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has congratulated Olatunji Rilwan Disu on his appointment as Acting Inspector-General of Police by President Bola Tinubu, describing the decision as a step toward improved and impartial policing in Nigeria.

In a statement issued on Wednesday in Osogbo by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke praised Disu’s dedication to duty and longstanding service in safeguarding lives and property across the country. He expressed confidence that the new police chief’s respect for the rule of law would strengthen the Nigeria Police Force and enhance its effectiveness.

The governor noted that Disu’s extensive experience, having served in all six geopolitical zones of the country, places him in a strong position to lead the Force at a critical time.

“I rejoice with Mr Olatunji Rilwan Disu on his appointment as the Acting Inspector-General of the Nigeria Police Force by President Bola Tinubu. Mr Disu is an outstanding professional who has devoted most of his life to the security of citizens,” Adeleke was quoted as saying.

He added that Disu’s reputation for discipline and fairness would help restore public trust in the Police, urging him to uphold professionalism and shield the Force from political interference and partisanship.

Adeleke also commended President Tinubu for reiterating his commitment to the establishment of state police, describing the move as vital to strengthening Nigeria’s security framework.

According to him, the creation of state police would empower sub-national governments to respond swiftly to security threats within their jurisdictions and prevent local crises from escalating into national emergencies.

“With State Police, state governments will have the means to put out the fire of insecurity before it goes wild. I must commend President Tinubu for his resolve to pursue this laudable initiative,” he said.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s determination to ensure the safety of lives and property in Osun State, noting that beyond supporting conventional security agencies, the state government has recruited over 1,500 personnel into the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun Corps, to complement the efforts of the Police and other security outfits.
