The Osun State government has stopped the monthly salaries of local government workers over alleged romance with the chairmen elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

According to sources familiar with the development, the local government workers under the Concerned Local Government Employees Association were not paid their February salaries by the state government.

A branch chairman of the association, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of victimization, confirmed the development to InsightLinks on Thursday.

He said the affected workers are chairmen of the concerned local government staff across the 30 local government areas and the area office.

“Yes, I can confirm that my salary was blocked. I didn’t get February salary. This affect all the chairmen of Concerned local government staff across all the 30 local government and the Ife East Area office.”

When asked what could have led to the development, the LG worker attributed it to an alleged relationship with APC chairmen in the councils.

He said, “they have accused some of us of relating with the council chairmen elected on the APC platform. You know NULGE state president, Nathaniel Ogungbangbe has asked every local government staff not to talk to the APC chairmen in councils. So they said we’re romancing them.”

Confirming the development, Chairman of Concerned Local Government Workers, Adedayo Adekunle, said some staff have not received salaries from the state government since October last year after they were suspended.

“It’s true. Some have not even received salaries since October when they were suspended. So the number has increased in February now.”

When asked if reasons were advanced for the suspension, Adekunle attributed it to their stance on the strike, stating that “we insisted that it is never in labour law when you’ll go on strike action for one year blaming it on security. So, some of us were suspended for voicing out.”

It would be recalled that the NULGE President, Nathaniel Ogungbangbe has stated that the council workers are loyal to the state government and would not relate with the APC chairmen.

In repaying the loyalty, the state government has continued to pay local government staff salaries since the crisis began in 2025.
