The Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Zuru, has passed away.
Zuru died on Monday night in a hospital in Egypt, where he had been undergoing treatment for an undisclosed illness.
Sources within the Kebbi State Government confirmed the development, though details surrounding his health condition were not made public.
Until his death, Zuru represented Zuru Constituency in the state legislature and was widely regarded as an influential figure in Kebbi’s political landscape.
Reacting to the news, an aide to the governor on Communication and Strategy, Idris Zuru, described the loss as shocking and deeply painful.
“The death of the Speaker came as a rude shock. It is a huge loss, not just to Kebbi State but to the entire country,” he said.
He added that the government is still gathering full details surrounding the incident and will, in due course, release an official statement, including funeral arrangements in consultation with the family.
Further announcements are expected from the state government as preparations begin to honour the late lawmaker.
