Governor Seyi Makinde has ordered a restriction on motorcycle operations across Oyo State between 10:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. as part of efforts to tackle rising insecurity and strengthen public safety.
The governor announced the directive on Friday through an Executive Order, saying the measure forms part of his administration’s response to ongoing security challenges, including the abduction of teachers and schoolchildren in the state.
Makinde reiterated his government’s commitment to securing the release of the kidnapped victims, assuring residents that security agencies and relevant authorities are working tirelessly to ensure their safe return.
According to him, every day the victims remain in captivity brings pain not only to their families but also to the entire state.
The governor acknowledged growing public concern over the situation but maintained that efforts to rescue the abducted individuals have not stopped.
He stressed that the safety and freedom of the victims remain a top priority for his administration, adding that they have neither been forgotten nor abandoned.
“We will not relent until the kidnapped teachers and schoolchildren return home safely,” the governor said.
Makinde explained that while the government may not be able to disclose all the details of ongoing security operations, significant efforts are being made behind the scenes to address the situation.
“We may not be able to disclose every step being taken because of the sensitive nature of the operations involved, but I ask our people not to mistake our silence for inaction. A great deal of work is being done behind the scenes,” he stated.
The restriction on motorcycle operations is expected to complement other security measures aimed at curbing criminal activities and improving safety across the state.
