Ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in Ekiti State, businessman Isaac Fayose has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to closely monitor the electoral process over alleged plans to induce voters.
Fayose, younger brother of former Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose, made the allegation in a video shared on his official Facebook page on Thursday.
According to him, there are reports suggesting that members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are allegedly preparing to influence voters through financial inducement during the election.
He urged the anti-graft agency to remain vigilant and take swift action against anyone found engaging in vote-buying.
Fayose argued that Nigeria’s democratic progress continues to suffer because elections are often influenced by irregularities rather than reflecting the true will of the people.
He said free and credible elections remain essential for producing leaders with genuine public support.
Questioning the effectiveness of electoral enforcement, Fayose said the Ekiti governorship poll would provide an opportunity to test the readiness of relevant authorities to curb electoral malpractice.
He maintained that if the EFCC is fully deployed across the state, alleged vote-buying activities should be detected and addressed.
“We have credible information that there are plans to buy votes,” he stated, while urging Nigerians to observe how institutions respond during the election.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no official response from the APC or the EFCC regarding the allegation.
