Premier League clubs are heading into the final hours of the summer transfer window with several major deals still unresolved as they race to complete their remaining business before Tuesday’s 23:00 BST deadline.
With little time left on the clock, some of Europe’s biggest clubs are still working on deals that could significantly reshape their squads, with Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez, Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez and Liverpool attacker Cody Gakpo among the high-profile names attracting interest.
Alvarez wanted by Arsenal, Barcelona
Julian Alvarez’s future at Atletico Madrid remains one of the biggest stories heading into deadline day, with both Arsenal and Barcelona monitoring the Argentina international.
Atletico are reportedly reluctant to sell their main striker Julian Alvarez to Barcelona but would be willing to negotiate with Arsenal if the premier league club with a suitable deal of valuation worth around €150m (£128m).
The uncertainty surrounding the 26-year-old has intensified after he missed several training sessions and was left out of Atletico’s squad for their match against Sevilla.
Man City monitoring Fernandez
Manchester City are keeping a close eye on Enzo Fernandez as uncertainty continues to surround the Chelsea midfielder.
Fernandez has been absent from Chelsea’s Premier League games since the season started, this further fuelling speculation that City could make a late move for the Argentina international.
A deal could prove extremely expensive and potentially surpass City’s club-record transfer fee of £116m, which they paid for Elliot Anderson earlier in the summer.
Chelsea consider Camara replacement
Chelsea could move quickly for Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara if Fernandez leaves Stamford Bridge before the deadline.
The Senegal international has already earned 49 caps for his country and is being considered as a potential replacement.
Camara could become Chelsea’s 13th signing of what has already been a busy summer for the London club, which is also expected to see further departures before the window closes.
Cody Gakpo attracts Man City, Tottenham interest
Liverpool attacker Cody Gakpo is another player whose future could be decided in the final hours of the window.
Manchester City have opened talks with Liverpool over the Netherlands international and are reportedly prepared to offer around £85m.
Tottenham are also interested, but Gakpo is understood to favour a move to Manchester City.
Liverpool, however, are reluctant to sanction the transfer unless they can strengthen their own attack before the deadline. The Reds are reportedly looking to bring in another forward in addition to Bradley Barcola.
Liverpool turn to Sarr
Liverpool have also identified Crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr as another attacking option to replace Cody Gakpo.
The Premier League champions previously saw two bids for Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh rejected, with Brighton demanding more than the £60m Liverpool had offered.
The Reds also made an enquiry about Sarr last week, although Palace initially turned down their approach.
Richarlison, Ndiaye swap possible
Tottenham and Everton are in advanced negotiations over a potential deal involving Iliman Ndiaye and Richarlison.
A move for Ndiaye is understood to be largely agreed, although Manchester City’s interest could still complicate the situation.
Everton have also reached an agreement in principle to bring Richarlison back to Goodison Park, with the Brazilian keen to leave Tottenham after entering the final year of his contract.
Grealish set for Everton return
Everton are increasingly confident of signing Jack Grealish on loan from Manchester City.
Grealish spent last season at Everton and is reportedly keen on returning to Goodison Park rather than joining his boyhood club Aston Villa, who have also shown interest in the England international.
A return to Everton would give Grealish another opportunity to revive his career after falling down the pecking order at City.
Newcastle eye Fernandez-Pardo
Newcastle United remain interested in Lille forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo as manager Matthias Jaissle looks to add another attacking option before the deadline.
The 21-year-old fits Newcastle’s preferred age profile and has the versatility to play in several positions across the frontline.
Lille left Fernandez-Pardo out of their squad for the weekend clash against Paris Saint-Germain and have also excluded him from training until the transfer window closes, increasing speculation that a move could be imminent.
Zirkzee could leave Man United
Manchester United could also be involved in late transfer business, with Joshua Zirkzee potentially heading for the exit if there is no breakthrough involving Marcus Rashford.
Fiorentina are interested in signing the Netherlands forward on loan with an option to buy.
United, however, would prefer a permanent transfer or, at the very least, a loan deal that includes an obligation for Fiorentina to buy the player.
With the transfer deadline fast approaching, clubs have little room for error, and the final hours of the window could produce a flurry of moves as Premier League sides scramble to complete their deals before the clock runs out.
