Former Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins has thrown his weight behind Nigerian businessman Seyi Tinubu, saying he believes the young businessman has the potential to lead the Nigeria Football Federation in the future.
Martins made the remarks during an appearance on the Mikel Obi podcast, where he spoke about the qualities he believes are needed to drive Nigerian football forward.
The former Inter Milan forward described Seyi Tinubu as a young man who understands the needs and expectations of Nigerians, adding that he could eventually take up the top leadership position in the NFF.
“I think Seyi Tinubu can be the president of NFF. He’s young and understands what Nigerians want,” Martins said.
“He’s not the president yet, but he’s making efforts.”
Martins’ comments come amid renewed conversations about the leadership and future direction of Nigerian football, with stakeholders continuing to debate the kind of leadership required to improve the administration and development of the sport.
The former striker, who enjoyed a successful international career with the Super Eagles, believes Seyi’s age, understanding of Nigerians and growing involvement in football-related initiatives could make him a potential candidate for the NFF presidency in the future.
Although Seyi Tinubu does not currently hold a position as NFF president, Martins’ endorsement places his name in the wider conversation about possible future leadership of Nigerian football.
