Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde is facing reactions from Nigerians after recounting what she described as one of her most embarrassing experiences while working on an African-inspired movie in Hollywood.
According to Omotola, an Igbo actor on the production struggled with the Yoruba language required for his role. She said she noticed the difficulty and raised the issue with the producers, hoping they would address the situation or offer some assistance.
But Omotola recalled that the producers looked her in the face and responded bluntly: “I DON’T CARE.”
The revelation has sparked discussion among Nigerians, with some questioning the incident and the broader issue of how Nigerian actors are treated when working in unfamiliar cultural and linguistic environments.
The controversy has also drawn attention to Omotola’s own career and her portrayal of Igbo characters in Nollywood. Some commentators have pointed to her performances as Agomma and questioned whether Nigerian actors should be given the same patience and understanding when they are attempting to portray cultures or speak languages outside their own.
