Friends and colleagues of Ahmad Opeyemi Uthman have thronged to social media to express their sadness over demise of the yet-to-be convoked graduate who died in the early hours of today, Friday, September 13.
Uthman was on Wednesday cleared by the University of Ilorin as a second class upper graduate of department of Yoruba in the faculty of Arts.
Insight media correspondent gathered that Uthman was involved in an accident on Thursday and was rushed to hospital immediately but later died in the early hours of Friday.
Among those who went on Facebook to express condolences over the sad incident is Alausa Issa Sanni, who narrated that he spoke with the deceased on Wednesday after he (Uthman) saw his name on the graduation list.
He wrote; I LOST A FRIEND.
I spend a lot of time reflecting over life, and death. I’m conscious of my time here and the shortness of my stay. I try to do everything like it’s my last. No one has promised me tomorrow, I just focus on the moment.
When people die, I see it as another evidence of our reality. I’ve lost both parents so I know what it means to lose loved ones.
This morning, news broke that a friend of mine passed away. I didn’t believe it. I shivered. I made frantic efforts to reach out to some people to disprove the news, they were all yet to verify.
The news already broke me. I prayed that it wasn’t true.
Two days ago, the University of Ilorin’s graduating list was released and he sent me a copy of his own. He graduated with a Second Class (Upper Division). I congratulated him. Later that day, we spoke on the phone. As I write this, he’s been confirmed dead.
I’m distraught. This hit me on another level. No matter how prepared you think you’re, death hits you on another level. I’ve gone through our conversations multiple times and I’m in a dilemma.
Oh Ahmad! I can’t say it’s not your time neither can I question why you’ve to die at all. Life remains a mystery to me and your death has reaffirmed that. I’ll pray for your soul. I’ll ask your maker to forgive your sins and grant you a beautiful repose.
Oh Ahmad! I’m devastated.
May your soul find peace.
