The 56-year-old died on Friday, November 6, two years after his appointment as the cabinet affairs office permanent secretary – Lawal’s death has been described as the “will of God” by SFG, Boss Mustapha in a condolence message.
Babatunde Lawal, the permanent secretary of cabinet affairs office in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, is dead.
Lawal died on Friday morning, November 6, from liver cancer at the age of 56 years, with his death coming two years after he was appointed permanent secretary. An economist with a strong bias in fiscal policy analysis, management and strategic planning, Lawal joined the federal civil service in October 1987 as a planning officer of the Federal Ministry of Economic Planning.
The deceased has served in different capacities such as a member of the federation accounts and revenue allocation committee, and governing board member of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
Meanwhile, SGF Mustapha has expressed sadness and grief over the death of Lawal, describing his exit as the will of God.
In a statement released by the permanent secretary (general services office) in the office of the SGF Maurice Nnamdi Mbaeri, Mustapha said he is saddened by Lawal’s death.
“With total submission to the will of God, the public service of the Federal Republic of Nigeria announces the passing unto glory of Babatunde Lawal, Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Affairs Office, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Deputy Secretary of the Federal Executive Council which sad event occurred on Friday, November 6, 2020 at the age of 56 years.”
