The People’s Democratic Party in Osun State has nominated the former National Secretary of the party, Professor Wale Ladipo as the Deputy National Chairman (South) nominee of the party.
Ladipo was nominated at an emergency extraordinary meeting of the party held at its secretariat in Osogbo, the State capital.
He was nominated by Nathaniel Ojetunji, Chairman of the party in Olorunda local government and seconded by Abiodun Fafaojo from Ayedaade LG.
The party said the his nomination was in tandem with the zoning and micro-zoning of the position to the State by the national headquarters and the zonal leadership under Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.
Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the PDP in Osun State, Hon. Sunday Bisi said the party arrived at the post as
We met at his residence in Abuja and we harmonized that he remains out leader in the zone. After back and forth discussion, we both apologized and henceforth, we resolved to move in an accord.
“His Excellency told us that three positions have been zoned to us. The Deputy National Chairman, National Publicity Secretary and Deputy National Secretary. As the tradition has it, Oyo and Osun will pick one, Ekiti and Ondo will have one and Lagos and Ogun will pick one.
“He (Makinde) said since he has the National Vice Chairman in Oyo, Osun should go and nominate Deputy National Chairman. This is why we’re here this evening.”
Speaking further on how the choice of Ladipo will help the party in the coming elections, Bisi said, “Professor Ladipo is a grassroot politician in Ile-Ife. He is someone that has never left this party at any time. His political experience helped our party won both federal constituency and senatorial elections in 2019. We believe with him, our votes in Ife is guaranteed.”
In his short address, the 2018 governorship candidate of the party, Senator Ademola Adeleke commended the party stakeholders for the presence even at a very short notice. He admonished them to start mobilizing at the grassroots for the success of the party.
“In 2022, it shall be government of the people by the people. We shall return our local government to the status it was. All our roads shall be tarred. I want to urge you to start mobilizing people at the grassroots for our elections in 2022.”
Present at the meeting were State working committee members, LG party chairmen, State Assembly minority leader, National delegates, party leaders, among others.
