The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has rejected the apology of a repentant candidate who confessed to having cheated when he wrote the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) 21 years ago.

The Nigerian man, identified as Timipade Kemepade, had written to the board asking for forgiveness, claiming that he was now born again and had only cheated out of youthful exuberance.

The letter titled, “Restitution on my JAMB Result 21 Years Ago“, read in part, With regret and sincere apology to JAMB, I, Timipade Kemepade, with Certificate No. 33208803GA confess that l participated in examination malpractice 21 years ago while sitting my JAMB examination. I, therefore, seek the forgiveness of JAMB. I sincerely regret my youthful exuberance”.

However, the board, in response to the man’s letter stated that the apology and consequent admission of guilt are “rejected in their entirety and are, therefore, not admissible.”

The board also informed him that the condition for accepting his apology is his willingness to forfeit all the certificates he had fraudulently acquired with the result of the exam he confessed to have cheated on 21 years ago.
