A former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, says the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) and awareness, as well as the proposed Electoral Act Amendment bill were not only crucial to the development of the country, but sacrosanct.

He therefore asked the people of Kogi State and Nigerians to take the ongoing CVR as a serious business and a civic responsibility.

Idris bared his mind during a meeting of former PDP Governors held recently at Legacy House, Abuja.

He said in as much as Nigerians were demanding for the improvement in Nigeria’s electoral system, CVR would qualify individuals to exercise his or her franchise, as a corollary to all the demands.

He maintained that the Electoral act Amendment bill, when signed into law, would be a lasting political legacy for Nigeria and appealed to Nigerians to also do their own part.

“It is when you vote that you can demand for good governance, provision of social amenities and infrastructural development in your area. But with apathy, there will be no way forward,” Idris said.

He expressed worry over the nonchalant attitudes of many Nigerians towards the CVR, pleading with them to turn up en masse and participate in the exercise across Kogi State and Nigeria at large.
