A University of Ibadan (UI) lecturer, Dr Biliki Babarinde has approached a Grade A Customary in Ibadan for the dissolution of the 20-year-old marriage between her and husband, Prof.Sikiru Adekola, over alleged maltreatment and promiscuity.

Babarinde, who worked in the Department of Library, Archival and Information Studies Faculty of Education, UI, informed the court in her originating summon that the marriage had broken down irretrievably.

She said that the marriage was contracted in March 2,2002 and that the marriage had produced three children.

Babarinde also prayed the court not to grant the custody of the children to her husband on account of the gender of the children, and his lewdly records of promiscuity, obscene practices, depravity and unfatherly conducts.

The plaintiff also urged the court to grant an order restraining the respondent from harassing, molesting and intimidating her and as well grant her the custody and care of the children of the marriage.

She further urged the court to order the respondent to bear the full responsibility for the payment of school fees, books, feeding and medical expenses of the children of the marriage.

The plaintiff urged the court to order the plaintiff to pay N100,000 monthly for the feeding allowance and N120,000 for the wardrobe allowance of the children of the marriage.

At Wednesday proceeding, the respondent, who is a lecturer at the Department of Early Childhood and Educational Foundations, Faculty of Education, UI, informed the court through his counsel, Mr Yusuf Anikulapo, that he had responded to the originating summon of the plaintiff.

Anikulapo said that his client was not opposing to the dissolution of the marriage but has an application challenging the jurisdiction of the court.

The counsel to the plaintiff, Mr Olufemi Adegboroye, however, objected to the move of the application, saying the respondent has raised some new facts in his counter affidavit that were not in the originating summon.

He informed the court that he was just served with the counter affidavit and that he needed time to respond to it.
Adegboroye urged the court for an adjournment.

The President of the court, R. Gbadamosi thereafter adjourned the case till April 11 for hearing of the preliminary objection. (NAN)
