President Muhammadu Buhari has today announced that henceforth, Democracy Day will be celebratedon June 12 in honour of the late Yoruba icon, Moshood Kasimawo Olawale Abiola whose election was annulled in 1993.
President Buhari also conferred Post-Humous award of Grand Commander Of the Federal Republic, GCFR on Abiola.
His statement “Dear Nigerians, I am delighted to announce that, after due consultations, the Federal Government has decided that henceforth, June 12 will be celebrated as Democracy Day.
“We have also decided to award posthumously the highest Honour in the land, GCFR, to the late Chief MKO Abiola, the presumed winner of the cancelled June 12, 1993 elections.
