The Vice Chancellor of Fountain University Osogbo, Prof. Aminu Sanni has said that the current leadership of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) believes education must be destroyed before it can be rebuilt.

Prof. Sanni made the statement when he hosted the Southwest Guild of Online Publishers (SWGOP) on Wednesday at the University premises in Osogbo.

Sanni disagreed with the current situation of Education in Nigeria, stating that all hands must be on deck to arrest the declining state of education in the country.

“It’s a very serious situation that Nigeria has never been realistic. It’s unfortunate that the current leadership of ASUU across board in Nigeria, believes that education must be destroyed first, before it is rebuilt, and that’s the problem.

He added that “no sane society will allow a system to collapse for 6months. But we want to tell the government that pay back time will come, whereby they’ll have to pay back one way or other.” Prof Sanni lamented

The VC also narrated the uniqueness of the Fountain University and how it has been able to accommodate other religion despite being a Muslim institution.

“No discrimination in the institution, we allow Christians to go their church services on Sunday and they are duly monitored”.

The VC said the University will soon introduce entrepreneural skills into the school system, so the students can learn other skills aside their choice of discipline.

In a bid to help the deranged students, drug addicts and other students who have trouble focusing mentally on their education, the University established an “Academoral” center to serve as an orientation center, and help for the students.

” No student is beyond reformation, a school should be open to all sides of students, reform the bad ones, and encourage the good ones”,Prof Sanni added.

He explained on how the school management will commence a new innovation termed ” Smart Agric village” whereby the food items will be planted, produced and sold by the students, in a bid to channel agric production and cultivate the habit of farming to the students.

He added that the Mass Communication department will soon commence its own radio station where students will have access to practical.

Mr Olayinka Agboola, the chairman of the Southwest Guild of Online publishers appreciated the VC for his time and patience at the meeting.
