UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak delivered a powerful message during the G7 meeting, branding China as the “biggest challenge of our age.” Sunak expressed concerns over China’s increasingly authoritarian behavior within its borders and its assertiveness on the international stage. As the summit in Hiroshima reached its final day, leaders engaged in discussions regarding the urgent need to support Ukraine in its struggle against Russia.

Joining the negotiations, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived on Saturday, and his presence became pivotal during the talks on Sunday. After a meeting with US President Joe Biden, Zelensky appeared to suggest that Ukraine had lost the eastern city of Bakhmut. However, a spokesman later clarified that Zelensky did not mean the city had fallen.

The G7, comprised of the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan, with additional invited nations this year, emphasized the importance of standing united against China’s challenges and supporting Ukraine’s quest for lasting peace. The discussions held during the summit marked a significant step toward addressing these critical issues and shaping the global response to them.
