President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the immediate and indefinite suspension of the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr AbdulRasheed Bawa
The suspension was to allow for proper investigation into his conduct since he took over the office following the sack of Ibrahim Magu
The President directs Bawa to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Director, Operations in the Commission, who will oversee the affairs of the Office of the Chairman of the Commission pending the conclusion of the investigation.
Director of Information, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Willie Bassey, made the announcement in a statement on Wednesday.
The statement read, “President Tinubu has approved the indefinite suspension from office of AbdulRasheed Bawa, CON, as the Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to allow for proper investigation into his conduct while in office. This follows weighty allegations of abuse of office levelled against him.
“Bawa has been directed to immediately handover the affairs of his office to the Director, Operations in the Commission, who will oversee the affairs of the Office of the Chairman of the Commission pending the conclusion of the investigation. “
Bawa is the second high ranking head of agencies to be suspended by President Tinubu. Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele was suspended about a week ago.
