According to statements from family members and investigators, the group began their camping adventure last summer, seeking to disconnect from society and its challenges. Rebecca Vance’s stepsister, Trevala Jara, revealed that Rebecca was disenchanted with the state of the world and believed that a secluded life with her son and sister would be better. Despite having no outdoor survival experience, they attempted to gain knowledge through online videos about surviving in Colorado’s rugged backcountry.
However, their lack of experience and preparation ultimately led to their tragic demise. They succumbed to starvation, ill-equipped to handle the harsh winter conditions. The group had reportedly tried to construct a shelter, but as winter set in, they sought refuge in their tent, which ultimately proved insufficient for their survival.
