Today, the Senate is set to screen Dr. Olayemi Cardoso, the acting Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), for confirmation into a substantive capacity. This screening also includes four nominees for the positions of CBN Deputy Governors who will oversee the affairs of the apex bank for the next five years.

The Senate, returning from its two-month annual vacation, has scheduled the screening of two additional ministerial nominees appointed by President Bola Tinubu for Tuesday, October 3, 2023.

Dr. Cardoso had assumed the role of CBN Governor in an acting capacity last week pending his screening and confirmation by the Senate.

The four deputy governor nominees to be screened alongside Dr. Cardoso are Mrs. Emem Nnana Usoro, Mr. Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, Mr. Philip Ikeazor, and Dr. Bala M. Bello.

Additionally, the Senate is scheduled to screen ministerial nominees, Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim and Mr. Ayodele Olawande, designated as Minister of Youth and Minister of State for Youth on October 3.

The Senate has also pledged to prioritize the appropriation of the 2024 budget upon resumption. Senate spokesperson, Yemi Adaramodu, emphasized that revitalizing the economy is a top priority for the chamber.

He assured Nigerians that the Senate would work diligently to address economic challenges and deliver services that enhance the lives of citizens. The Senate expects to receive the budget proposal from the President soon.
