The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, announced on Tuesday the declaration of two federal constituency seats as vacant, urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to promptly organize bye-elections for the affected constituencies.

These two seats became vacant due to the recent appointments of Tanko Sunono and Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo as Minister of State for Education and Minister of Interior, respectively, by President Bola Tinubu.

The decision to declare the seats vacant was made after the resignation letters of Tanko Sunono and Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo were presented and read during a plenary session on Tuesday.

Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo was elected to represent the Akoko North-East and Akoko North-West Federal Constituency of Ondo State, while Tanko Sunono was elected to represent the Yauri/Shanta/Ngaski Federal Constituency of Kebbi State.
