In a bid to promote small and medium enterprises and also alleviate poverty at the grassroots, the United States Exchange Alumni Association in collaboration with Rave FM, empowered 20 women in Osun State.
The empowerment which was held at the American Window in Osogbo on Friday, had in attendance the Deputy Governor, Kola Adewusi and the Chief Medical Director of Uniosun Teaching Hospital, Dr Babatunde Olaitan amongst others.
The Deputy Governor, Kola Adewusi commended the conveners for deeming ot fit to organize the empowerment programmes and training for the women.
Adewusi said, “First and foremost, I’d like to commend the conveners for supporting these women in the State, empowering these women is this trying times, it’s a commendable effort.
” I also want to congratulate the women for being part of this, I implore you to make judicious use of these money given to you, support your business and not give away these funds. When you invest in your business, it grows and you can use it to support your family”, he stated.
The Director of The US Government Exchange Alumni Association of Osun State, Dr Femi Adefila congratulated the women for being part of the people selected to be given the grants.
Adefila also disclosed that the women were selected through a phone in interview with Rave FM, which the women revealed the business they were into and what can be done to support their business.
“On Rave Fm, there’s a programme called “karakata”, it was from this programme, that the women called in and asked questions about their businesses and the struggles they are going through.
” So after much survey and findings, we were able to select 20 women out of 100, and we decided to empower them through the US Government Exchange Alumni Association “
“The US Government Exchange Alumni Association aims at empowering women in nano business to promote and support their businesses and build a viable economy at the grassroots”, he explained.
Adefila urged the women to use the money wisely, adding that the training given to them will surely help them succeed in their businesses.
The Chief Medical Director of UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Dr Babatunde Olaitan applauded the Association and The Director for empowering the women, he urged them not to squander the money since its festive season, but to invest in the money.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Oyedare Adenike appreciated the Association for the empowerment, and promised to make judicious use of the grants.
