...As Alunmi Association gives 20 students scholarship

The Vice Chancellor, Osun State University, Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye has disclosed that the university has no plans to increase its tuition fees.

The Vice-Chancellor stated this during the scholarship awards presentation for indigent but diligent students organised by the Osun State University Alunmi Association held on Tuesday at the school campus, Osogbo.

The Vice-Chancellor said the decision was in compliance to the current economic instability and to create a good name and feasibility for the university’s image.

“We need to make this university to develop and create a good name and feasibility for the university within the context of the present economy and that is why this university is engaging in the National Education loan fund of the Federal Government.

“It is my pleasure to inform you that we are the first state university in Nigeria to receive the NELFUND grants for the sum of 218 million naira to cover 8,000 students of this university and it will be disbursed into thier school fees.

“We are going to publicise the names very soon, and some students have already seen on thier portal.

“You can see that because of the good name the alumni created for this university, we have the joint support of the state and federal government also in areas of infrastructures in the school.

However, Prof Adebooye charged the graduating set to be good representive of themselves and the school.

The Global President of the University Alunmi Association, Comrade Abdulbasit Olokuta explained the motive behind the scholarship awards to the 20 students.

“One recognition of any alunmi association is to give back to its Alma mater, we understand that there are so many brilliant students, but yet finding it to cope financially, so that is why we tagged this scholarship awards as “Indigents but Diligent scholarship awards “, it is given to students with proven academic record, minimum of 3.50 cgpa which is second class upper, and record that shows that the candidate don’t have the financial capabilities.

Speaking on the sustainability of the Association to continue the scholarship awards, Olokuta said ” this year is the second edition and we have one of our members, Bukunmi Omotosho who also sponsored 5 of the scholarship awards.

” We are hoping that by next year, we will have many alumni members coming to sponsor one person or the other, as the President I’m hoping that by next year, I will be having more than 100 students to give scholarship awards to by the association.

He also charged Alunmi Association of other institutions to learn to give back to their Alma Mater, as this is one of the core objectives of the Association in the Institutions.

The Osun State University has begun its 14 convocation ceremonies since September 13th and its expected to round off Saturday 21st 2024.
