Gifted actress and filmmaker, Sandra Okunzuwa has opened up on the challenges of being an actor. In a candid conversation with Potpourri, she spoke about the demanding nature of the film industry and the unique challenges faced by actresses.
“Acting can be draining, both physically and mentally. We have a lot of talented females in the industry who are not only skilled but also beautiful. Women are naturally born to hustle; we strive to be better at what we do, especially in our respective areas.”
Okunzuwa emphasized the extra effort required for women in the industry. “For females, we have to try hard—we must look good, be talented, and remain focused. There are many others who are just as talented. It’s essential to stand out in a competitive environment.”
When discussing male colleagues, she noted a different standard. “For men, it seems that as long as they can act, handsome, and have good charisma, they can get by. But acting is not easy for anyone. The hours are grueling—you leave home early and often don’t return until 12 AM or 1 AM the next day.”
Despite the challenges, Okunzuwa remains passionate about her craft. “It’s a lot, but the passion keeps pushing us to do what we love”.
