Speaking with the first child of late Mrs FM Akinsafe, Mrs Akintunde Adenike disclosed the reasons behind the project, while recalling her mother’s works and wishes while alive.
“The reason for this initiative today is because we have passion for this children and before mama died, she loved the children like hers. She believed they are human beings like us and if we can take care of them, their future is rest assured. We need to make them happy for them to know that they all belong somewhere.
” Today, we are donating 40 tables and 40 chairs for the students”, she explained further.
She advised government, NGOs and other relevant stakeholders to spread love among the children and also contribute towards their future .
“My advice for them (stakeholders ) is that they should spread love to those children. They should come to their aids. We don’t know where the future will lead tomorrow, we can’t leave them to wander around. I implore the government to do the needful and protect the interest and rights of these children. How they are being fed, their learning environment and other important welfare should be a concern for all of us”.
Speaking on the sustainability of the initiative, Chief Mrs Adebimpe Omolade, another daughter of Mrs FM. Akanfe stated that the NGO will grant scholarship to three best students of the school in furtherance of the current gesture.
“We have been coming around yearly to donate food items, we felt we needed something to show, so we asked the school management, and we were told they needed furniture for the students , for at least 80 students.
“We are going to pick the best three students, that we are going to sponsor them financially every year from the school to their secondary level. This is what we believe will inspire them”, she stated.
The Assistant Headmistress of the school, Mrs Ademola Titilope who spoke on behalf of the school management appreciated the NGO for extending love to the children.
She described the late Mrs FM Akanfe as a role model whose paths they are following as teachers in the school for students with special needs.
“Mama Akanfe was a nice woman during her active days as a teacher, she was a mother to the children and teachers, she extended love and care to the students. She is a role model that every teacher emulates today.
“The provision of the furniture by the foundation will help the students to be more comfortable and convenient while studying”, she concluded.
