The operatives of the Osun Amotekun Corps have successfully arrested a 27-year-old man, Adekunle Obideyi, from Erinmo-Ijesa, for the theft of cocoa, banana, and other farm produce.
A statement by Yusuf Abbas, the Spokesperson of the Osun Amotekun revealed that the suspect was apprehended on Tuesday after stealing agricultural produce from a farm in Erinmo-Ijesa and absconding with the items.
“Following a complaint about the theft, Amotekun operatives swiftly acted on the information, tracking down and capturing Obideyi in his hideout in Erinmo-Ijesa. During preliminary questioning, the suspect confessed to the crime and admitted that this was not his first involvement in such illegal activities.
“He revealed that he would often steal cocoa and banana from farms and sell them to interested buyers.”
“The Osun Amotekun Corps Commander, Dr. Omoyele Isaac Adekunle, confirmed the arrest of Obideyi. He explained that the suspect was apprehended after committing the theft and attempting to hide in an uncompleted building, where he was eventually caught. Dr. Adekunle emphasized that, based on Obideyi’s confession, this was not his first time engaging in the illegal act.
“The Corps Commander further urged residents of Osun State to remain vigilant and security-conscious in their communities. He encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities or security breaches to Amotekun or other relevant security agencies for swift intervention.
Yusuf said Obideyi has been transferred to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for further investigation and interrogation.
