BREAKING: INEC declares PDP candidate winner of Bayelsa polls

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the November 16th governorship election in Bayelsa state as the winner of the election.

The Chairman of the Commission, Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu made this declaration on Friday during a media briefing in Abuja.

Yakubu said the Commission will issue certificates of return Diri and his running mate in compliance with the order of the Supreme Court.

The Chairman stated that since the votes cast for the All Progressives Congress has been voided, the total number of votes remaining is 147,000 with PDP having 137,000 which is more than 25% of the total votes.

He said the Commission will issue certificates of return to Douye Diri and Lawrence Ewhrudjakpor as Governor-elect and Deputy Governor-elect of the state.
