Osun State Government has announced the reversal of ten policies majorly introduced into the education system by the immediate past administration in the state.
The reversal was done after the consideration of the report of education review committee headed by an Erudite Professor, Olu Aina.
Announcing the adoption of policies during a press conference, the Commissioner for Information and Civic Education, Funke Egbemode, her colleague in the Ministry of Education, Oladoyin Bamisayemi and The Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Jamiu Olawumi said the reversal were necessary to accommodate people’s yearnings.

They added that schools will also revert to their original names and school uniforms.
The government also said schools established for single sex, which have been accommodating other sex would be reversed to the sex they were established for, while those who have graduated will be issued attestation letter by the ministry of education to avoid future challenges.
Egbemode said that schools for technical and vocational education will be equipped with all the facilities required, adding that there will be an awareness to change the orientation that students that are not brilliant are meant for technical education.
“Among the issue the council deliberated and discussed was the desirability or otherwise of continuing with the current policy of merging primary 5 and 6 with a junior secondary school to form middle schools and how it is not in conformity with the national policy on education,” Egbemode said.
“Council unanimously agreed with the expert report that the state of Osun will reverse to the 6-3-3-4 structure as against the 4-5-3-4 education policy and the government will provide adequate physical instructional facilities at all levels to make the new policy we are reverting to effective.
She added “This development was an outcome of the recent report of the Extant Education Policy Review Committee set up by government to review the education policies. The decision was taken on Monday during the State Executive Council meeting, after intense deliberations on the committee’s recommendations. So, the council unanimously agreed to all the recommendations of the committee which submitted its report to Governor Gboyega Oyetola by the chairman, Prof. Oluremi Aina.
“The council also approved the early childhood development education which was suspended by the last administration. The council agreed to set up committee to look into the issue of whether to increase or not to increase school fees in order to meet the best global practice.”
According to her, the council in line with the recommendations of the committee upheld the arrangement of Headmasters-general in all federal constituencies and Tutors-general in all Senatorial Districts as introduced by the last administration.
Also retained is the Opon Imon (Tablet of Knowledge that was introduced by the last adminstration. The council agreed to re-equip it and make it better for the students, while teachers will also be given a copy each.
