Students under the aegis of the National Association of Osun State Students, national headquarters on Tuesday stormed  the State headquarters of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, in Osogbo to protest alleged “unprofessional conduct” of the operatives of the agency.

The students, who were armed with different inscriptions all calling for investigation of the sporadic shootings that occured at Orisumbare market and Old Garage on Monday.

 

InsightMedia has reported that the some security details attached to former Governor Rauf Aregbesola opened fire while passing through the busy Station Road in Osogbo.

In their petition submitted the State Commandant, Emmanuel Ocheja, the students called for the investigation of the men of the officers involved in the Monday’s action.

The petition partly read, “it is regrettable that the officers and the men of the corps that is known for decency, discipline and patriotism has been turned to political tormentors in the state and we have no choice than to cry to your good office before the people of the state began to lose their lives in the hand NSDC tactical force in Osun.

“It is understandable, that NSCDC is under the supervision and control of Federal Ministry of Interior being superinterded by the former Governor, Ogneni Rauf Aregbesola who appears to be running a political battle in Osun but we strongly believe that NSCDC as a security outfit must be completely excused as a willing tools to destabilise the state

“For your information, we have not had it so terribly in recent time with this level of abuse and the involvement of your officers extremely complicated the political tension in the state.

“We the abuse of the NSCDC men and officers in recent political outings of the former Minister in the state where several records of attack and gun dwell had occurred spearheaded by the NSCDC officers but it reached its peak yesterday February 14, 2022.

“We decided to escalate this matter to your office because we have it on good authority that most of the personnel are also drawn from neighboring states and if security apparatus with constitutional responsibility of protecting the people are now at the peak of political violence against the citizens, it calls for a serious concern as a state.

“We however demand the investigations of NSCDC officers involved in yesterday sporadic shooting in Osogbo and punish in accordance with relevant law of NSCDC for public disturbance, treat to public peace.”

In his response, the State Commandant said the Command under his watch will continue to protect lives of Osun residents, described the development as unacceptable.

He said the command under his watch will do the needful.
