Chelsea striker Pierre Emerick Aubameyang has become a league winner by playing just eight minutes for Barcelona

The Catalan team were crowned La Liga champions after beating Espanyol 4 goals to 2 on Sunday night Aubameyang who failed to make an impact at Chelsea will be recognized as part of the winning squad

Before joining Chelsea, Aubameyang played for Barcelona and was called in from the bench for Jordi Alba in the last few minutes of the league’s opening game against Rayo Vallecano

That small cameo in the 0 0 draw should in theory be enough for the striker to receive credit for the league’s victory his first in the career

In the Premier League a player needs a minimum of five league appearances to be part of a winning squad However the rule is not the same elsewhere in Europe which means that Aubameyang could be included in La Liga’s records as a league winner

This recognition would be a silver lining for the star after his dreadful campaign at Chelsea where he made only 21 appearances and contributed only three goals He was recruited by his former manager at Dortmund Thomas Tuchel to fix Chelsea’s long standing scoring issues Tuchel was dismissed and Aubameyang watched as Graham Potter Bruno and Frank Lampard stood in the dugout over the following months, He failed to become a permanent fixture for any of those managers and he is unlikely to be at Stamford Bridge for the incoming boss Mauricio Pochettino

Few would have predicted such a spell after Aubameyang s impressive form during his time at Barcelona last season After arriving mid season from Arsenal the former Gabon international hit 11 goals in 17 La Liga games. The Spanish side has been linked with a move for their former striker who joined his former teammates celebrations after the El Clasico win over Real Madrid on March

In summary Aubameyang’s eight minute cameo could prove enough to be recognized as a league winner with Barcelona providing recognition after what has been a disappointing season for both the player and Chelsea

The striker’s future remains uncertain and it will be interesting to see where the former Dortmund star will end up next season
