Against the notion given to Nigerians by the Federal Government before the arrival of Chinese personnel, the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) has revealed Chinese health workers are not in Nigeria to help in the fight against COVID-19.

The Chinese construction firm said the health workers are within the facilities of the company after undergoing quarantine for 14-days.

In a statement released on Friday, the company said the health workers numbering 15 came from the CCECC headquarters in China and from its parent company, CRCC.

The company said the health workers, some of whom are infectious disease experts are in Nigeria to help contain the virus from spreading to staff of the CCECC.

In addition to its primary objective, the team also provided training for Nigerian health workers on the usage of the testing kits and medical equipment that they accompanied to Nigeria.

The company corroborated the statement of the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire in which he said the health workers were quarantined and also tested after the 14 days to be sure they are negative for COVID-19.

The health workers also helped in providing technical support to the Nigerian government in the installation of the medical equipment at the ThisDay Dome Isolation Centre in Abuja.

Further revealing their role in the country, the company said the 15 health workers have shared their experiences and knowledge with officials of the Federal Ministry of Health and Nigerian medical experts.

The company declared that it workers are not in Nigeria to treat COVID-19 as the information in some quarters contain.

“It is important to reiterate that the mandate of the team, as mutually agreed with stakeholders does not cover treatment of COVID-19 cases. The team is therefore not treating any COVID-19 Cases. In dealing with both the CCECC and the Nigerian health officials, the team only plays an advisory role,” it said in a statement.

CCECC revealed that the officials are in its accommodation and have complied with every existent immigration and health protocols, as they continue to engage the company and other health stakeholders.
