There was confusion on Saturday as two presidents emerge from the parallel Congresses of the National Association of Nigerian Students held in Abuja. The two presidents were announced by the two factions of the association.
It was reported that NANS is the national body of Nigerian students studying in Nigerian tertiary institutions and in Diaspora.
The two candidates announced as factional presidents are Umar Lawal of the Department of Library and Information Science of the Bayero University, Kano and Usman Umar of the Federal University Dutse.
It was gathered that controversies had rocked the student body following internal tussles. The tussles had led to the postponement of the elections which were earlier slated for last Saturday.
Despite moves for reconciliations, elections were held in two different locations which led to the emergence of two factional presidents.
The tussle for who succeeds Asefin Sunday, a student of the Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, who was elected in 2020 as NANS president, became intense last week following clashes and unending issues among the leaders of the association.
However, the student body is expected to address the media today to clarify the issues that surrounds the election.
