Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Timothy Owoeye has insisted that Nigeria will have no meaningful development if not restructured.

Owoeye, who called on Nigerian youths to be at the forefront of demanding for restructuring, made the call at on Wednesday at the EndSARS Aftermath Stakeholders’ Engagement in Osogbo on Wednesday.

The lawmaker said a situation where Governor of a state cannot give directive to the State Commissioner of Police is old and need a restructuring.

The speaker, while commending the youth for their roles in EndSARS protests, also called on them to take a front seat in demanding for restructuring of Nigeria.

“The problem of Nigeria is age-long, and it must be addressed from the root. No meaningful development will be witnessed if Nigeria is not restructured.

“Unemployment that we have now is as a result of moribund state of some of some national assets that were accommodating graduates then. Companies like Machine tools, Steeling Rolling, Ajaokuta Steel Production employed millions of young persons that are now in moribund. We need to revive them.

“Imagine a situation where a Commissioner of police only takes order from Abuja and cannot be controlled by the state governor. Only restructuring can address this and I’m calling on youth to take a front seat in demanding for restructuring of Nigeria. It’s the way to go.”

Speaking on the way forward after the EndSARS Protest, Owoeye said the state assembly will work on laws that will improve standard of living of youths.
