It was an exciting moment at the Center for Black Culture and International Understanding (CBCIU), Osogbo as friends and associates of the Orangun of Oke-Ila, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr) Dokun Abolarin gathered to celebrate with him over his recently bagged Honourary Doctor Degree in Public Administration.

InsightMedia has reported that Oba Abolarin was recognized for Honourary Degree in Public Administration by the Lead City University, Ibadan.

The Thursday’s event was organised by friends of the monarch as a way of celebrating the monarch’s diligence and philanthropic gestures which has touched and is touching many lives across.

Chairman of the occasion, Professor Olu Aina OFR, described the Orangun of Oke-Ila as a man who has done so much for humanity, even before ascending the throne.

“Oba Abodunrin has been rendering philanthropic gestures to people for years without drawing unnecessary attention or media hype to himself. His recognition by the Lead City University could be termed as a reward for his age-long humanitarian services.”

In his brief keynote address, a member of governing council of Osun State University, Osogbo, Professor Bolaji Omitola said the described the Oba Abolarin as a man of many parts, who has impacted positively on several individuals.

Omitola said, “Kabiesi is a man of many parts. He’s a teacher, a scholar and an intellectual bank. He has become a visiting lecturer in our institution as he creates link between the town and the gown. All we want to say is that may God Almighty bless and protect him for many generations.”

Earlier in his welcome address, the Director, CBCIU Professor Siyan Oyeweso also showered praises on the Honouree whom he called “a monarch with a difference”.

Oyeweso said the monarch has done greatly for the advancement of mankind and an epiphany of such is the Abolarin modern college in Oke-Ila where children of less privileged are been educated for free.

The professor of history said what Oba Abolarin has done with that school will continue to remain fresh in the historical anal of the community and the Yoruba Nation at large.

He also said the well-travelled monarch has been a promoter of Yoruba culture home and Abroad, adding that the Honour by the LCU is a deserved one.

Speaking with the newsmen after the event, Oba Abolarin said he inherited act of giving back to the society from his father and the aim of bringing it to fore has never crossed his mind.

He however, expressed appreciation to the friends who organised the reception, adding that what they have done will spur him to do more.

Also present at the event were Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal, Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Rasheed Olabomi Odundun, Olonaruwa of Onaruwa, Elekuro of Ekuro, among other traditional rulers.

Others are Former Secretary to the state government, Kazeem Adio, Former commissioner of information and strategy, Sunday Akere, Director of Omoluabi Bank, Mr Mike Omolaja, Mr Niyi Idowu and Mr Tola Afolabi.
