Protesters under the aegis of Coalition of Civil Society have blocked major roads in Osogbo, Osun State capital.

The protesters, who are armed with several inscriptions have earlier converged at Nelson Mandela Freedom Park as early as 7am on Friday, are protesting the increment in the electricity and fuel pump price.

They moved from Freedom Park to Oke-Fia, Alekuwodo and for to popular Olaiya junction. They blocked the ever busy Olaiya junction, leading to huge traffic logjam.

Speaking to Journalists, the Chairman of the coalition, Comrade Waheed Lawal said the protest was just a way of sending signals to President Muhammadu Buhari and also to announce a five-day ultimatum for him to reverse the hikes.

He said the country would be grounded if he fails to do so as every sector will be shutdown through massive protests.

In his reaction, co-convener of the movement, Waheed Saka berated President Buhari for the policy, stating that he (Buhari) has betrayed the trust Nigerians reposed on him 2015.

“Buhari has betrayed us and will continue to protest until he reverses these neck-breaking increments. We can’t continue like this. He promised us refineries and not increase in pump price.

“We are here to protest increment in electricity tariff. Buhari has thrown Nigerians masses to the dogs as he has handed over the critical sectors of our economy to those who are only interested in profits.” Saka said.

Also speaking, the Public Relations Officer of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Zone D, Olatunji Nurudeen condemned the FG, describing the actions as insensitive.

He said the Nigerian students will do everything within their powers to resist the increment in electricity tariff and fuel pump price.
