The Lawmaker representing Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore, Ejigbo Federal Constituency, Bamidele Salam has called on the Inspector General of Police, Abubakar Mohammed Adamu, to compel the arrest and immediate prosecution of personnel under his watch who were involved in the incident that led to the gruesome killing of master Idris Ajibola, a Constituent in his Federal Constituency.

Idris Ajibola, 21, died on Tuesday in a ghastly motor accident after a hot chase by members of Joint Task Force (JTF) in the Osun State Command of the Nigerian Police Force. The deceased was due to celebrate his 21st birthday on October 3rd.

Speaking to newsmen in Osogbo, the Osun State Capital on Thursday, Rep Bamidele Salam expressed sadness at the wanton killing of young Idris by what he described as reckless and seemingly unprofessional approach of men of the Nigerian Police, who he said, were acting without any record of competent warrant of arrest against occupants of the car Idris and his friends were driving in.

Bamidele Salam bemoaned the sad turn of events in Nigeria where citizens are increasingly becoming mortally unsafe in the hands of uniformed men who are armed and paid by taxpayers whose children are being murdered with reckless abandon on daily basis.

The Lawmaker warned in a tone laden with emotions that Idris gruesome killing must not be allowed to go the way of similar occurrences that have been unjustly swept under the carpet.

In the event the IG failed in his responsibility to fish out the perpetrators of the heinous crime and met appropriate sanctions against them within seven days beginning from Thursday, 17th of September 2020, Rep Bamidele Salam threatened to institute legal actions against the police on behalf of the affected family in his constituency, for aggravated damages and other expedient claims.

While commemding Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State for steps taken so far on the matter, Rep Bamidele Salam however urged the State government to go a step further to institute a high powered judicial commission of enquiry to unravel mysteries behind the killing of Idris Ajibola. This according to the former OSBC ace reporter turned politician, would not only assuage the present sorrow of the immediate family of the deceased, but would also go a long way in stemming the tide of reckless killing of innocent citizens by some privileged men in uniform in the country.

Earlier in the day, Rep Bamidele Salam had paid a condolence visit to Ofatedo residence of the deceased, where he urged the family to take heart and look up to God for comfort in this trying period of their life.

Mr Kehnde Ajibola and Mrs Titilayo Ajibola, parent of the deceased, who were still drenched in tears as at the time of the Lawmaker’s visit, called on all appropriate agencies of government to come to their aide in their quest for justice, saying, late Idris was a diligent and promising young man who the family was helping to attain the best heights in life for their future pride and comfort.

The visibily bewildered parent also urged Rep Bamidele Salam to do everything within his powers as their representative to stand in gap for them and bring Killers of their son to timely justice, just as they appreciated all and sundry for the care the family had received in the last 48hours of killing of their son.

Rep Bamidele Salam, who could not hold back tears listening to members of the family recounting their last moments with Idris, pledged to work with relevant agencies of government and according to laws of the land, bring Killers of Idris Ajibola to justice.
