Leading youth development-focused organization, Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative has called on young persons to register to participate in this year International Youth Day programme.

This year’s theme according to a statement by Abideen Olasupo, the Executive Director of the organization, will focus on goals two and three of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Olasupo said the choice of the theme was informed by the UN’s 2021 IYD concept note, which says young people are critical to the actualisation of the Sustainable Development Goals and related frameworks, adding that the organization align with the UN on this and acknowledge that the role of young people has never been more important than now.

The statement partly reads, Each year, our event has centred on the theme for the year. We have designed different projects tailored towards the agenda for the year and promoted it through various channels.

This year’s IYD theme is: Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health. As stated in the UN’s 2021 IYD concept note, young people are critical to the actualisation of the Sustainable Development Goals and related frameworks. We align with the UN on this and acknowledge that the role of young people has never been more important than now.

In addressing this year’s IYD theme, we will also be addressing SDGs 1&2. When food systems are transformed, it will significantly impact efforts to end poverty and hunger globally.
