A group of Iwo citizens living in abroad under the umbrella of Association of Iwo land Indigenes in Diaspora has called for the dethronement of Oluwo of Iwo land, Oba Abdurrosheed Adewale Akanbi Telu 1.

The Group in a letter signed by its lawyer, Peter Adeosun of Crown Solicitors and sent to Governor Gboyega Oyetola alleged the Oluwo of abuse of office, unethical conduct and behavior unbecoming of a Yoruba Monarch.

Among those mentioned as Clients are Habeeb Rahman (Iwo LG), Ayodeji Bello (Iwo LG), Femi Micheal Aina (Iwo LG), Tunde Fatumbi (Iwo LG), Oludare Adesiyan (Ayedire LG), Zainab Jabar (Iwo LG) and Ismaila Adesoye (Ola Oluwa LG).

The group urged the Governor to investigate all the allegations against Oba Akanbi, dethrone him and prosecute him immediately.

Their letter read in part, “Your Excellency, it is important to state that the monarchical activities of the Yoruba are cultural heritages and values that people guide jealousy and considered to be high cultural value and desecration of which is declared as sacrilegious. A Yoruba King is the South Western Nigeria are traditional sacred entities who must pass through various traditional rites as precursors for the installation into the throne of their forefathers.

“Your Excellency, in our brief as evidenced by various correspondences made available to us by our Clients, that Oluwo Abdurrosheed Adewale Akanbi has been conducting himself in manners which are unethical of a monarch in any clime and unbecoming of a Yoruba Oba.

“Your Excellency Sir, in fact and in laws, every citizen including traditional rulers are to encourage obeisance to rule of law and respect the laws, norms and cultural values of the land they govern. It’s therefore disheartening to our clients that Oluwo Akanbi, a Yoruba Monarch who is expected to be a custodian of Iwo culture and values, has been misrepresenting Iwo interest and this is becoming rather shameful.”

The Iwo sons and daughters went ahead to narrate 31 instances of the said violation of norms and cultural values that Oba Akanbi has involved in.

The group stated that Oba Akanbi who “supposed to spend 90 days in Ipebi abruptly left after 25 days (November 9th – December 4th 2015) to attend the installation of Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi on December 5th”.

They also alleged the monarch of publicly assaulting eminent Iwo sons such as Moshood Adeoti, former Secretary to Osun Government; Chief Shuaib Oyedokun and notable clerics from Iwo land.

They said the time to urgently restore the integrity and dignity of Iwo land and Oluwo stool is now, calling on Governor Oyetola to dethrone the monarch.
