President Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo arrived the Eagles Square in Abuja where the June 12 Democracy Day celebrations are holding for the first time at around 10:15am.

The President arrived in company of invited World Leaders who have arrived the country to be part of the historic celebration.

World leaders in attendance include the President of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz; President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame; President of Liberia, George Weah; President of Congo, Denis Sassou Nguesso and President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo.

Others are: President of Senegal, Macky Sall; Prime Minister of Uganda, Ruhakana Rugunda; President of The Gambia, Adama Barrow; President of Niger Republic, Mahamadou Issoufou; President of Guinea-Bissau, José Mário Gómes Vaz and President of Benin Republic, Patrice Talon, among others.

However, none of the past presidents and Heads of State was in attendance at the Eagles Square to be part of the event.

In his speech, Buhari, who was inaugurated for a second term of four years fortnight ago, rolled out the achievements of his administration in the last four years and also projections in the next four years.

The President also announced the renaming of Abuja International Stadium as MKO Abiola Stadium.

He appreciated the World Leaders in attendance for honouring the invitations extended to them.

“Nigerians should be proud of their history”

“In the last four years, we have made tremendous progress in addressing challenges in the country”

“We can afford to be proud Nigerians”

“Our GDP is expected to grow by 2.7% this year.”

“We will work with the private sector to accelerate economic growth”

“Nigerian Government will continue to reduce social inequalities through the Social Investment Programmes”

“Over 2000km roads across the country will be completed.”
