An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun on Tuesday, remanded Femi Afolabi, 40, in Nigeria Correctional Centre, over alleged killing bat on the campus of Obafemi Awolowo University(OAU), Ile-Ife.

Police prosecutor, Sgt Adewale Adesina, said the Afolabi committed the offence on Jan 13, 2020 around 09:00 am at the premises of the institution OAU.

Adesina said that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause the breach of public peace by entered OAU without the institution’s Authority and started killing bat with catapult.

He added that the offence contravened section 249(d) of the Criminal Code , Laws of Osun, 2002.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to one-count charge of breach of public peace.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Samuel Obi, pleaded for the bail of the defendant in most Liberal term, promised that his client would not jump bail, but would provide substantial sureties.

Magistrate Muhibah Olatunji granted the bail of the defendant in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like amount.

Olatunji added that the surety must swear to affidavit of means, resides within the court jurisdiction as well as presents three years tax clearance certificate.

She stated further that the house of the surety must be verified by the Prosecutor and three recent passport photograph must be produced by surety and defendant.

Afolabi is to be remanded in prison facility pending when the bail conditions will be met.

The case was adjourned until Feb 11, for hearing
