As part of the activities towards improving the economy of the Osun State, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Gboyega Oyetola on Market Development, Hon. Hakeem Okunade Samanja, on Thursday embarked on visitations to selected markets across the state, .

Markets visited include Olufi Market in Gbongan, Ayedaade local government as well as Gbagi Larooye and Sasa markets, both in Osogbo, the state capital.

According to Samanja, the visit was to assess the situation of the markets and to hear from the marketers, what their plight and demands are.

He said the state government under Governor Oyetola is ready to develop markets across the state, in order to boost the economy of marketers and to improve the internally generated revenue of the state.

At Olufi market, Community leaders, led by the Balogun of Gbongan, Chief Ayodele Onikegbe, said the market is critical to the development of the area; stating that it is an ancient market with rich historical background. Onikegbe said the people of Gbongan are elated to receive the government’s delegation.

Also speaking with newsmen, a market woman, Mrs Beatrice Lawal, commended the governor for the achievements his administration has recorded. She however, enjoined him to extend his good to the people of Ayedaade local government.

She said, “firstly, I want to thank Governor Adeboyega Oyetola, for what he has achieved so far. We hear and see his good works on daily basis across the state. I want to enjoin him to extend his good works to this market and in general, to Ayedaade people. We’re solidly behind him and we believe the second term bid will be a successful one.”

Head of the market of Gbagi Larooye market, Mrs Latifat Adigun, thanked the Governor for his “listening ears”. She said the demands of the market people have been written in a letter delivered to Hon Samanja.

Her words, “I thank the Governor for counting us worthy of the visitation. It shows Oyetola has listening ears. We have written all our demands to the governor and we believe he will assist us.”

The atmosphere was not different at Sasa markets, as sellers and buyers trooped out to welcome Samanja and his team.

Market authority has also compiled their challenges and needs and handed it over to the SSA. The Iyaloja of the Market, Mrs Adijatu Maruff; and the Babaloja, Chief Kamarudeen Yusuff Efe; unanimously commended Governor Oyetola for the development his administration has brought to the market.

They said government’s interventions in the past have helped in improving the economy of the market women. They therefore called on the Governor to help provide the demands as stated.

Assuring the marketers, the SSA market development said the Government will look into their demands and attend to them as soon as possible.

He said, “the Government of today values the market men and women and it is committed to their welfare. I want to assure you that we’re going to look into your demands and attend to them.

“I want to encourage managements of the market to put their hope in the Government. I believe that Mr Governor, being a man with large heart, will work on people’s demands.

“I urge you to continue to support the administration of Governor Oyetola as he remains the best person to pilot the affairs of our state during this period.”
