A late goal by Victor Wohuruche savaged a point for Go Round in Omoku against a hard-fighting Osun United in one of the Group B1 fixtures of the Nigeria National League (NNL) which commenced across Nigeria on Saturday, February 13, 2021.

The interesting encounter which held at the Krisdera Hotel Stadium, Omoku would be hard to forget by the hosts as they were caged from breathing by the Omoluabi Giants whose aim was to break the jinx of losing to Chief Felix Obuah’s Boys in all previous encounters in Omoku.

The hosts looked confident at the beginning of the match as they put the ball on the ground but an offensive charge by Osun United skipper, Hakeem Olalere, Ajagbe Azeez and Victor Okeji caused a defensive confusion for Go Round while Dennis Meshach capitalised on the error to chip the ball over the on-rushing Uwandu Chisoba to give the visitor an astonishing early lead.

The ‘Felix Obuah Boys’, who had been promised a whopping sum of #.5m for a victory over Osun United started mounting severe pressure on their visitors with several chances wasted by Akinwale Ogunjobi and Anderson Prince.

The hosts were nearly rewarded through a free kick taken by Emeka Okenji but Arinze Okoro rose high to parry it to the corner.

Realising the danger to park the bus, Hakeem Olalere and Ajagbe Azeez dashed forward to combine with Adio Monsuru and Dennis Meshach. This forced the hosts back and Osun United were nearly rewarded with the second goal through Victor Okeji but his long short went wide as first half ended with a lone goal in favour of the visitor.

Go Round began the second half with two quick substitutions who mounted pressure on Osun United through attack and counter-attack but the iron gate of the Omoluabi Giants remained solid and well guarded by Chibuna Eze, Jerry Okon, Seun Akinyemi and Aleem Adebayo who prevented Adesiyan Isaac, Akinwande Ogunjobi, Victor Wohuruche and Ebi Chinedu from gatecrashing.

Osun United lost three players, Alani Azeez, Dennis Meshach and Adebayo Aleem to injuries within 15 minute of the tension soaked second half while Hakeem Olalere and Arinze Okoro were very cautious, having been booked in the first half. The injured trio were replaced by Abimbola Mojeed, Jabar Azeez and Mutiu Dauda who continued to frustrate the attack of Go Round.

The hosts eventually levelled up in the 82nd minute when Ogunjobi’s long range pass was perfectly controlled by Ebi Chinedu who located Victor Wohuruche to slot in past helpless Arinze, sending the anxious spectators into a wild jubilation

All efforts by the two sides produced no goal until the referee blew the final whistle after the additional 5 minutes.

Osun United will welcome Nnewi United to the Osogbo Township Stadium on Saturday, February 20 in the week 2 fixtures.
