Traditional rulers in the State of Osun have expressed their readiness to support the state government towards the actualization of its agenda through generation of revenues in the domains.

The monarchs stated this in their respective palaces when the new Executive Chairman of Osun Internal Revenue Service (OIRS), Mr Adegbite Ademikanra paid courtesy visits to them.

The visits, which started on Wednesday, July 10, 2019, according to Mr Ademikanra is to familiarize with the monarchs and also create tax awareness in their communities.

Speaking at the palace of Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the OIRS boss thanked the monarch for the warm welcome he accorded the team and said he and the team were at the palace pay a homage to the Arole Oodua and also seek his partnership towards actualization of the agenda of OIRS.

In his response, Oba Ogunwusi said he understands how important the timely payment of tax is to the development of a State and said he will be ready to offer the board any assistance required of his palace.

Mr Ademikanra was at the palace of the Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Abdurosheed Olabomi Odundun II on Thursday in continuation of the courtesy visits.

At the palace, the Chairman stated that, “I recognize the importance of traditional monarchs just the State Governor, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola does, and that is what informed my visit to the palace.

“Kabiesi sir, we are here to familiarize with you and your Chiefs and to also give a befitting awareness on tax and highlight importance of its payment as and when due.”

In his responds, Oba Olabomi firstly congratulated Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola on his victory at the Supreme Court and expressed optimism that his administration will bring the best to the state.

The monarch urged the Chairman to bring new innovations and techniques towards maximizing tax collections across the State. He admitted that the new boss, Mr Ademikanra has hit the ground running with right steps he has taken.

The journey also continued on Friday with a visit to the palaces of Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdurosheed Akanbi Telu I, the Ogiyan of Ejigbo land, Oba Omowonuola Oyeyode Oyesosin and the Akire of Ikire, Oba Olatunde Falabi.

At all these palaces, the OIRS boss sought the support of monarchs and their Chiefs towards generating revenue to the state purse.

The tour confines on Monday as Mr Ademikanra led his team to Ila-Orangun, Ora-Igbomina, Ikirun and Igbajo all in Osun central senatorial district.

In his welcome address, Oba Adeniyi Olufemi Fashade, Akirun of Ikirun said the tax collection strategy must be taken to the grassroots for people. He added that all stakeholders needed to be carried in order to entrench the culture of tax payment to the grassroots.

The Chairman promised to organize a stakeholders summit soon for people to dialogue and chart new way for tax collections in the State.

The tour continues today, Tuesday at the palace of Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun Larooye II.
