Oluwo of Iwo, Oba AbdulRosheed Adewale Akanbi Telu 1 has called for enactment of land grabbing prohibition act in Osun.

Oba Akanbi stated this at the EndSARS Aftermath Stakeholders’ Engagement held in Osogbo, the state capital on Wednesday.

The monarch said grabbing of lands by people he described as powerful is becoming a source of insecurity in the state.

The programme was attended by the State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, his Deputy, Benedict Alabi, Speaker of the state assembly, Timothy Owoeye, other government functionaries, among others.

The Monarch said, “Your Excellency Mr Governor, there is a need for Land Grabbing (Prohibition) Act. Lagos State has it, same as Oyo. We need it in Osun too.

“Many young persons you see on the streets acting as thugs are victims of land grabbing. Their fathers’ lands have been forcefully taken away by some powerful people and they can’t further in their education or careers again because their parents have nothing again.

“This is becoming another cause of insecurity in the state and we must address it. In Oyo and Lagos, it’s fifteen years in prison. This will serve as deterrent to others”. The Monarch concluded.

Earlier, Governor Oyetola has restated his commitment to youth engagement and development.
