Following the unrest and tense atmosphere that has characterised the lives of students on campus, the management of Osun State College of Education, Ilesa, has declared a mid-semester holiday for its students.

Five students have been confirmed dead within few days in the institution and this has sparked protest among the students.

The mid-semester break announcement was contained in a statement signed the Public Relation Officer of the Institution; Mr Segun Ojolo.

Ojolo stated clearly that the management has resolved that students should go on break as a result of ongoing protest by some unidentified students of the college.

The state goes thus ” The college is using this medium to put the record straight on the student unrest that occurred today Tuesday, May 28th, 2019. College management condoles with the families of dead students who died within the last few weeks.

“Contrary to rumours making around, their deaths occurred after protracted sickness under the watch of the respective parents not within the college. It is unfortunate that while college management, staff and legitimate representatives of the students were mourning this sad occurrence, some miscreants chose to mobilise unsuspecting students for violent protest to the extent of assaulting Divisional Police Officer and his men.

“College management commends the police for their swift response and also announces mid-semester break while advising parents and guidance to ensure that their wards are law abiding.”
