The Independent National Electoral Commission has issued Certificate of returns to elected Osun State House Of Assembly Members from the March 18 Elections.
The presentation of the certificates was held at the INEC State headquarters in Osogbo on Thursday.
While speaking at the event, the Resident Electoral Commissioners, Dr Mutiu Agboke appraised the success of the electoral process, stating that the elections was peaceful and had no cause for supplementary or rerun elections.
He appreciated the electoral officers, electorates for their effort in conducting a credible 2023 general elections, adding that there were challenges but all were surmounted.
“There were challenges but we were determined to provide credible results in Osun State, so we were able to surmount them “, he reiterated.
He appealed to politicians should increase the tempo of voters education for thier members, charging them to learn the principles of democracy so as not to engage in violence that disrupts orderliness in the State.
He also encouraged the elected members to do as they promised to the residents who elected them. ” To whom much is given much is expected”..
In an interview with Caretaker Chairman of the PDP in Osun, Dr Adekunle Akindele expressed have belief that the Assembly populated by his party members will serve interest of the people of Osun.
Some of the Members of the House expressed thier satisfaction on the efforts of INEC to conduct a credible election and promise to fulfill all thier manifestos to their constituencies.
Speaking with the Honorable representing Obokun State Constituency, Adewunmi Adeyemi, commended the efforts of INEC in conducting a conclusive, credible and transparent elections.
His words,” Election isn’t a do or die affair, we are meant to serve the people, it’s a privilege. Electorates have exclusive rights to vote for whoever they please, and as elected member, I urge my colleagues to deliver good governance to the people who voted for them”.
Expressing views on what the 8th Assembly will do differently, Adeyemi who is of the returning members said the House will work for the people of Osun State.
“With our party as the majority in the house, bills that haven’t been passed, I also have bills that have not been passed, with our Governor who is for the people, I assure you that this regime will be different, all will be in the favour of the people of Osun State “, he stated.
Hon. Popoola Simeon, Representing Boripe/Boluwaduro State Constituency and the only Members-elect of the All Progressives Congress, said he’s prepared to face the challenges ahead.
” I’m not alone, I’m more than prepared, even though I’m the only APC member in the House, my constituency should expect the best of me, because I have always delivered”.
Representing Ayedire Constituency Elisha Oderinwale Elisha said ” when duty calls, experience matters, I believe so much that we are going to discharge our duties effectively to make sure the entire people of Osun State enjoy our regime”.
“I appreciate the people of Ayedire State Constituency and as I promised, it’s going to be a new era. We shall do our best for them and for the people of Osun in general.”
