To ensure universal access to safe and affordable hygiene which is part of targets of the goal six of the Sustainable Development Goals, The Osun New Era Lions Club on Thursday took its environmental sanitation to Igbonna Market in Osogbo to sensitized marketers on Cleaning Exercise and ways to preventing airborne and other diseases.

The exercise tagged “A clean environment breeds a healthy nation”, was aimed at ensuring that market persons embrace acts of cleanliness.

Lion Dr. Adesoji Adelekan, the President of Osun New Era Lions club while speaking with the newsmen, said Clean up exercise is one of the core project of Lions Club in odun State.

“When there is a clean environment, there won’t be space for airborne and other diseases. The need to make Igbona and other markets clean, is what has driven the Lions to donate some cleaning materials to market so that the marketers can continue using them” he said.

He urged other Non Governmental Organizations to help the needy in order to make our society a better one.

Adelekan implored all the Market women to make judicious use of the cleaning equipment presented to them, to end the spread of airborne Diseases.

A Former President of Lions Club, Oluomo Sunday Akere, said Lions Club is a service organization and NGO assisting less privileged people in the society .

Lion Akere added that the service activity for the month of April is sanitation, the organization has done same thing in other markets too and it’s just the turn of Igbona market to benefit from the gesture.

He urged other organizations to emulate Lions being one of the largest club in the world and other to support the needy.

“When you want to serve, you must serve with three things; Time, Talent and Treasure” he said.

“Market men and women should not wait till Thursday which is the day set aside by the State Govt. for general cleaning, they should make cleaning the environment their daily exercise”.

“They should cultivated the habit of maintaining the environment cleanliness, Dirty environment exposed people to illness” he advised.

Activity Project Chairperson for the month of April, Lion Ramata Ojo explained that assisting the needy is the culture of Lions club.

Lion Ojo added that Lions has never visited Igbonna Market like other markets is Osogbo environment.

“We’re here to sensitize them on the important of cleaning there environment and provide cleaning materials for them.

She beseeched others to have humanitarian feelings for others.

Mrs Oropo Olayiwola, the Iyaoloja of Igbonna Market expressed her excitement and appreciated Lion for their kind gesture.
